Jan Smith is a Canadian American artist, born in Vancouver, BC and currently lives on the west coast of Canada where she maintains a studio. She received a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University in Halifax, N.S.
Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally with solo shows in Canada. Jan recently had a solo exhibition at the Anna Leonowen’s Gallery at NSCAD University and was part of the Summer Visiting Artist Series. Her work is in the collections of the Canada Council Art Bank, Burnaby Art Gallery, Simon Fraser University, and in corporate and private collections within Canada and the United States. Jan’s work has been featured in a number of publications, most recently New Earrings: 500+ Designs From Around the World, by Nicholas Estrada, Thames and Hudson and On Body and Soul: Contemporary Armour and Amulets, by Suzanne Ramljak.
Jan has taught printmaking and enamel classes, and been a guest artist at Okanagan College Printmaking Department, Kelowna, BC and Pratt Fine Arts, Seattle, WA. She is currently outgoing president of the Vancouver Metal Arts Association and has served on the board of the Seattle Metals Guild, Malaspina Printmakers Association, and Salt Spring Island Arts Council.
