Jan Smith was born in Vancouver, BC and has been based in BC since 2001. She received her BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in Halifax, N.S. Smith’s work includes jewelry, drawings, intaglio, and linocut prints. Smith studied metalsmithing and enamelling at Pratt Fine Arts in Seattle WA and Penland School of Crafts in Penland, NC.
Jan has exhibited nationally and internationally with solo shows in Canada. Smith was part of the Summer Visiting Artist Series at Nova Scotia College of Art and Design University and has been a guest artist in the printmaking department at Okanagan College. Her work is included in public and corporate collections including the Canada Council Art Bank, Burnaby Art Gallery, Simon Fraser University. Smith’s work is in a number of publications, most recently New Brooches: 400+ contemporary jewelry designs, by Nicholas Estrada and On Body and Soul: Contemporary Armour and Amulets, by Suzanne Ramljak.
Jan has taught printmaking and enamel classes. She has served on the board of the Vancouver Metal Arts Association, Seattle Metals Guild and Malaspina Printmakers Society.
