Thoughts behind the work in the “Confined” Exhibition

 Posted on January 14, 2022

The work for the exhibition Confined is composed of a series of vitreous enamel brooches with mono print displays or sanctuaries. The jewellery is an amulet offering protection against the fear and anxiety of being Confined. When worn or placed in the display, hung on the wall the amulet offers the owner the solace and benefit of nature. There is an underlying widespread belief that things in the natural world have a power and I conjecture these circles symbolic of nature afford comfort in a climate of confinement.  Here’s a peek at one of the pieces.

NW Passages exhibition at Alchemy Jewelers Portland OR

 Posted on May 12, 2018

I’m excited to have four pieces in the Northwest Passage Exhibition at Alchemy Jeweler, Portland OR.  May 3rd – May 31, Tues-Sat 11-6, Sun 12-5.

“This exhibition is on the SNAG MADE Portland 2018 Gallery Crawl, Thursday, May 24th, Reception 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm.  The exhibition is showcasing work by artists who have lived, worked, or studied in the Pacific Northwest.”

“In today’s connected digital age, art and information are more accessible than ever, but there is power in seeing an object in person and interacting with it in shared physical space. We maintain social ties and friendships through email, social media, and messaging, but there is a special value in relationships that have been built in person. As part of the 2018 Society of North American Goldsmiths Conference, this Gallery Crawl exhibition explores these physical ties, bringing visitors face to face with craft objects by artists who have moved through the Pacific Northwest region at some point in their creative development. The artists may now maintain connections through our modern digital means, but they have also shared and been shaped by our real-world geography. We celebrate the artists’ ties to this physical place by sharing their works with visitors gathering from across the country and beyond for the 2018 SNAG conference”
