Thoughts behind the work in the “Confined” Exhibition

 Posted on January 14, 2022

The work for the exhibition Confined is composed of a series of vitreous enamel brooches with mono print displays or sanctuaries. The jewellery is an amulet offering protection against the fear and anxiety of being Confined. When worn or placed in the display, hung on the wall the amulet offers the owner the solace and benefit of nature. There is an underlying widespread belief that things in the natural world have a power and I conjecture these circles symbolic of nature afford comfort in a climate of confinement.  Here’s a peek at one of the pieces.

Where Ideas Come From

 Posted on December 18, 2017

Love this time of year!!  I wanted to share how my ideas develop, I am inspired by the shapes and pieces on the bench and new pieces are inspired by one I am working on.  Whilst working late nights and early hours to finish up production work and complete holiday orders I have to stop and make sketches and notes for new pieces.  Have to admit that I’m so inspired that I’ve managed to carve out some time to fabricate some new one of kind pieces.  Excited to see the work come together for upcoming 2018 exhibitions…more on that in future posts!!

Inspiration from the Pacific Ocean

 Posted on December 13, 2017

I live on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, oh lucky me!  My morning walks are filled with visual treasures.  The sandstone looks as if a skilled stone mason has split it into rectangular bricks, the cracks are filled crushed shells.  I love the granular quality of the surface, it has influenced the way I am approaching the enamel application.   I’ve been working on some new pieces based on these walks.  More as these pieces progress.

winter on the west coast

 Posted on January 15, 2017

I know some of you will be groaning, but I just have to post a little about the snow.  We get snow so irregularly on the West coast that for me it’s a magical time.  As I’m not able to get to the studio I am just enjoying the snow. Enjoy the view from my perspective.
